I had no idea about the cricket

It's the opposite of smoke alarms:
The crickets stopped chirping because they needed to replace their batteries.  It is that time of year, after all!

it's difficult to predict the weather nowadays. The weather may be fine in the morning, but there'll a thunderstorm in the late evening.

It's been hideous here.
Hot and humid, followed by a tease of fall -- prompting a recent post -- back to hot and humid. What gives?

I think they stopped because there was a difference of opinion regarding the temperature! So they stoppped, had a big meeting, agreed on a compromise and started their work again in the morning...
