Antonioni,
Some say it's poem if it rhymes
some say the writer has a good time
that depends, I suppose
if you're trying to please those
who are you payin you
but I like your idea
better if a poem is free
and to hell with the lucre

Hey, you might be in the Manc library right now.
Watch out for that woman with the bagful of paperweights.
(There's a true tale goes with this.)

Thanks everyone!
I'm going to another reading group after work - on my own this time - but it won't be like a gig, I think it's more just a few people sitting around, bringing their own poems, in a library in Manchester...

Veri good sonnet really and also thinkfull. My opinion is that poetry should always try to displace common language, even the language of poetry. In Italy, for instance, is very uncommon to find poets writing sonnets because we are still too much tied to avsanguard and so. I appreciated very much the coming back to tradition. Harpo1947

I liked this a lot but I can't say why! I did think of Wilfred Owen & Siegfried Sasoon. They were not welcome or very famous until the (evil) the wars they wrote about (against it, that is) were over. We could also write "Anthems ofr Doomed Youth" ...be ignored, & still write

Tony
An age old question, I suppose - "What is a poem". From a marketable perspective it probably has to be easily digested by the masses but if a poet screams or whispers an idea in the shape of a rhyming piece, a free style prose, or a sonnet, who's to say that's not poetry??? Aren't poets by nature eccentric and therefore their "product" a finely crafted message of their musings?

Hi Tony
Once, the fanous actress Greta Garbo, in her haughtiness, asked of an Indian heroine, "Wonder why people call you a great actress back there in India? Acting is child's play". To which this heroine, I forgot her name answered, "Woner why it took you so long to become a child?"
