I'm re-reading the comment that this is a wake, and I am just amazed, jfm

You make sound as if you were sneering at the idea of missing one of our best bloggers, but the idea of not saying anything is just impossible to me.   As for the comment about "professional mourners",  shouldn't the better word be "friend"?  Don't we care somewhat for each other?

If you don't understand that, I feel sorry for you.

Re: FineYoungSinger, he's a court jester, a joker, harmless

That is my question, Zena.  The guy was a total blast!  He had me laughing out loud at times.

My first day on Blogit I went on one of his wild goose chases.  I wasn't posting yet, as I wanted to see what this site was all about first, but when I started posting and commenting, he was one of the first I hit.  On the one year anniversary of my mother-in-law and sister-in-law's murder-suicide (YES, JFM32, HARD TO BELIEVE WE'VE ALL EXPERIENCED HORRIFIC TRAGEDY) I read one of Dave's poems, and that got me through the day.

Not to mention the guy is a prolific writer and teacher, dedicated to his art.  Everyone should go into his about me and check out his wild goose chase of other blogs...his work will completely floor you.  It's a real shame that someone of that caliber would be tossed off this site.

Okay then, JFM, "wake" is kind of what this is, because being banned
is being dead to the community.  This incident deserves to be noted for what it is: an injustice.  As for your other story, that's too bad. Bye.

FineYoungSinger, he's a court jester, a joker, harmless
How could anyone have a problem with someone having some silly fun but who brings so much life to the blog?

posted by Zena77 on October 30, 2007 at 8:16 PM | link to this | reply

my new experince
So here I am at Dave's wake (and Dave's not only not here--he's alive
and well, somewhere)

And if you think this is crazy, Im in a circle of professional mournors, and i don't even know what I'm mourning about. But I liked it so much I was thinking about writing and epithat--which was compltey arbitrary (arbitrarily deciced by me--hey, I go with the flow)

Till I thought about my last funeral. My 30 year old nephew decapitated in a freak car accident. His was a closed casket funeral too.

So, if I seem a little arbitrary in my reactions, it is only very personal. I got my own way of lining up my own caskets.

Seems to me you have a great discussion group, here. But this is not where I want to be.

Best of Luck

John

SoulBuilder, .Dave is gone. He was banned this morning.
Supposedly for posting too many repetitions of the same blog in his Counting To Infinity blog.

JFM, actually the water's a little murky, I don't feel much llke swimming

And if I were to develop a blogsite, it wouldn't be the kind to let one complaint ARBITRARILY ban one popular blogger without any input, concensus or appeal from anyone for a trumped-up, bogus reason.

Re: DAVE

jfm...there are writers on here that post the same 5 pictures over and over several times a day and don't get banned for it.

If you ask me, the reason he got banned is because someone got jealous that bloggers were paying more attention to him than to their posts.

If anyone bothered to read the comments left in that section, they would have found a myriad of facts, ideas, thoughts, jokes, one-liners and conversations that were entertaining beyond belief and open to all.  He will be sorely missed in this forum.

Re: JFM, I think I might, invent my own blog.
Great idea. Let me know when you devolp it. As far as the arbitray goes, it will always be arbitrarily interpreted, if not grounded in necessity. Life has its own way of presenting the self-evident. The water's fine, when you gonna jump in?

posted by jfm32 on October 30, 2007 at 6:56 PM | link to this | reply

Thanks, TAPS and Azur, I figured somebody would know the rules better
than I do. It didn't make sense to me either that we're not allowed to post more than once to a blog, or only once a day.  I know that wasn't what I was told when I signed up.

posted by Zena77 on October 30, 2007 at 6:19 PM | link to this | reply

jfm32, you can make more than one entry per day to a post
A blog site has no editors. It is a living entity and swings with the moods and thoughts of its participants.  Sure if we had 35 .Dave's then the site would be too much of one thing. But we only have one .dave and many people enjoy his contributions.

Do you not think that whoever complained may be taking things a little seriously?

Can you please tell me where (or post the rule) it says that we can only post once a day.  I don't remember ever seeing that and I know that I have occasionally posted more than once a day.

These rules still seem arbitrary and arbitrarily interpreted.  Thanks for sharing.

DAVE
I don't know what "repetative" is but I will surmise 2 pts of views. On Oct 13 he made 3 entries (but you can only make one a day). One might think that the "system" might cancell the other 2 but that needs special programing--so the red flag was raised.Perhaps a warnig should have been made, and we don't know if that was done or not.

Now, let's look at Blogit's position, its purpose and mission. Cyberspace might be infinite, but the time you or I get on the screen is not. Now Dave might have been unique (if you think so), but what would happen if there were 5, 10, or 20 Daves, not so unique? And they posted everyday, the very nature of this blog would change. And I, for one would no longer be part of it.

Blogit, as a blog like any magazine has the right to control its content, sense of direction, and destiny. Just because we might like participating in an idea someone else invented doesn't mean we own it or pariticipating in a democracy.

If you want complete democracy, invent your own blog.

TAPS, it is too bad
Like I said,  I didn't know him well except for the punny word games, but I love good wordplay and banter so much that I will miss him.  It was just silly, harmless fun.  That's what I don't understand. Why it became an issue.

Zena
I've seen lots of threats on Blogit through the years.  Most of them don't hold water.  This happens to be one that got carried out.  Too bad.

Zena, the new ones just keep coming to join without...
knowing what has gone on before.   I've been here since Feb '04 and have probably seen five or so banned.  That's not really very many considering that the act of banning seems to frighten the others into submission.

posted by TAPS. on October 30, 2007 at 4:34 PM | link to this | reply

Tony, nothing is ever as it seems on the surface when it comes to things
like this.  I think TAPS is right, there's someone who wanted him gone.  I'm not miserable, I'm just sad at losing someone who is such a playful soul, even in the short time I've known him.

posted by Zena77 on October 30, 2007 at 4:33 PM | link to this | reply

TAPS, that has got to be bad for busiiness. I mean, how big is the pool
of people willing to pay to write?  If one person after another gets drummed out for petty reasons and then never allowed to return, it's got to hurt Blogit's bottom line at some point.

posted by Zena77 on October 30, 2007 at 4:30 PM | link to this | reply

Hi Zena
I am shocked that this is in any way enough to get one banned. I'll speak to Dave about it on thursday to try to establish what happened and what if anything can be done.  Chin up everyone - I'm sure Dave wouldn't want us to be too miserable about this. I'll certainly pass on any messages I get from him in a couple of days. Let me know if there's any messages for him you want to send to him and I'll pass them on when I see him.

WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVE /SPINNER

posted by spinner on October 30, 2007 at 3:08 PM | link to this | reply

Isn't that a kick in the gut, Spinner?

He's one of the nicest bloggers here..silly harmless sense of humor, and he gets canned for "being too repetitive" which I can't even find in the Code of Conduct.

What they do say is that they can kick anybody out at any time if they feel like it.
