Boy, how these memories of yours revive my own - what a time it was, there was a strange and sweet innocence pervading that whole period, drugs, love and flowers, and of course music - but also, a friend of mine thought he could fly, and took to the air, off a viaduct, and there were others whose bad trips with their consequences sometimes cast a pall over things, a reminder that maybe we had things to learn...
We were even 'doing up' in seminars at the university (in those days we were allowed to smoke in seminars at the prof's discretion), and I remember one very nice old prof, who knew a lot about his field but not much about the world outside, remarking about the 'strange cigarettes' we were smoking...

Fascinating post. Took me back with you to the times (although I go far back). I so relate to what you say about the feeling of it being worse to be protected and bad than to be good and "caught". Times have definitely changed a bit.
