Like you, I find inappropriate comments annoying. I sometimes don't comment at all because either nothing occurs to me, or else what does occur is, shall we say, needlessly sarcastic...
I do, however, make a point of responding to the comments people make on my blogs, if sometimes belatedly so...

Many people just leave (often) inappropriate generic comments, without actually reading the post - in hopes that you'll be so "grateful," that you'll read their Blog...

Knight, if I can't leave an intelligent comment, I'll pass...I'll sometimes
leave a rose or two thumbs up, but I've read posts where people have complained about that, too...I guess its better sometimes to just read and pass.....

I actually did read a blog in which someone was writing about the loss of the loved one and a blogiteer left a comment "good post". Yikes! If a post doesn't invoke a comment (specific to what was written) then even a rose is an acceptable calling card. If leaving a comment, however, at the very least read the darn post.....

This was a good post,
sometimes i understand what i read and sometimes i dont, then i dont leave a comment, because i dont know how to comment. Sometimes the post was good , i just dont have anything to say or time will not permit. But i have noticed comments that are advertisements, like "i wrote a post like this last week , you should read it." If the post was of interest to me i go and read it to. anyway, i always enjoy your posts

and the misleading blogs that get bloggers to read about something the title had nothing to do with. Bloggers that go down the list of bloggers and just leave the same comment, that is basically what you are saying. See I did read your blog. One reason I dont leave a comment many times is the blog is way to long and loses my interest.

You bring up a good point...
I have to admit that I am one of those who reads someone's work and I wont leave a comment.. Not that I dont like it or anything.. Its just sometimes what they wrote grabs my mind and I become lost in thought.... Then when it comes time to leave a comment I cant do it..

I understand what your saying. Sometimes I leave comments and sometimes I don't. If my mind isn't working well..lol..I'll leave no comment or just a
or
. I fully admit that I'm one of those who uses the "Excellent post" at what are probably inappropriate times. I dont know about others...but I mean no disrespect, its ( to me anyways ) simply a way of saying that I liked what was written or that I felt it was well written or a subject matter that was a good choice. As for so that someone knows I'm reading their blogs...sure, I can admit that some of my comments are simply to let people know I'm still reading their blogs. Personally I don't need the comments...views and visits are the numbers I watch to see if anyone is reading. I write because I want to write or I feel I need to get something off my chest. What you have written IS an excellent post...one that I could leave more than a simple thumbs up.....

I think many are in a big hurry due to time constraints but you are right there are times when comments seem out of line with the subject matter...
