actually,
I found that in all of the places in Germany I'd been to and lived in, the windows were almost always quite large--and quite clean. Be prepared to clean your windows at least twice a year, live with bees, moths, and flies buzzing in and out three seasons of the year, and to do a lot of sweeping of the stairs, sidewalk, and gutters (Kehrwoche). Unless you're lucky and your hausmeister(in) does it for you.
