I honestly do not know if there are more or less scam artists out there today than there has been in the past, but I am willing to bet as for percent of population wise, there are less.  Why?  Because it is harder and harder to get away with it all due to modern technology and quicker exchanging of information.  Outside of religious scams that is, which seem to be getting easier and easier to get away with.

But once more what we see is that due to our present state of information exchange, we know about all the scams a lot quicker and we hear about ALL of them.  By doing that a picture gets painted that things are bad, when they might not be as bad as you think.

As for the 'mindless violence' that is and has been for some time going down. Once more, the facts are that the most violent documented time in American history outside of a war has been prohibition. We have yet to come close that level of 'mindless violence' again.  It is just that the news is covering all acts they can and that makes it seem more common.  Violent crimes are decreasing every year in this country, but the coverage of those crimes are increasing.

Kooka Lives: Regarding morality, there seems to be more scam artists than ever before.  The lack of trust among people is real.  Look at all the mindless violence now!  Where is the morality?  Regarding homosexuality, I'm sure that some people do it naturally but others choose this lifestyle.  I believe that it comes naturally to most homosexual and lesbian individuals but not all.  It depends on the individual person.

Point by point, you nailed it, my friend. Conservatives of this bent make
the mainstream conservatives look bad, just like the extreme liberals make the mainstream liberals look bad.  Steering clear of both are a good idea.  The problem seems to be that the more charismatic of each ilk tend to be pollticians and clergy.  Now, that's scary...

What facts, reason or logic do you use to say we are not more moral than we used to be?  Now we are more aware of the misdeeds being done around us, but if one looks at history they see that we are actually right now much less likely to perform misdeeds. In general the basic standards of morality are truly much higher than they were fifty or a hundred years ago.  It is just due to our ability to communicate so well, we are just so much better informed about anything that happens.  Of course the two somewhat go together.  The more we know about the misdeeds of others, the less likely we are to perform misdeeds ourselves.

As for the homosexual issue, it is not about agreeing with the lifestyle.  I truly will never understand how a man could ever find another man sexually attractive. Just as I will never be able to figure out the base cause of belief in God or the reason why Conservatives think if such hypocritical and foolish ways, and then create idiotic justifications for it all.  Outside of that not being the lifestyle for you, what logic are you using to say it is not normal or natural?  More and more scientific evidence is pointing to there being something there that is a natural thing for some people to be homosexual.  Trust me, when you accidentally insult homosexual man because you make the comment about how you find a woman to be easier on the eyes than him (Forgetting at the time that he was gay) and see the look on his face of disappointment, you figure they really are born that way.

Is It Just Me, Or Are The American Conservatives Too Paranoid?
KookaLives: I generally agree with you regarding Iraq and terrorism.  I don't believe that morals are higher in this country than ever before.  It's just the opposite.  Regarding homosexuals, I don't believe they should be discriminated against but I don't share your view that their lifestyle is on the same level as heterosexuality.  I believe that many public school sex education teachers are trying to convince young people that gay sex is just as normal and natural as straight sex.  I don't agree with that at all.
