I do salmon patties about the same way you do, Wild Bill.
Although I just give a sleeve of ritz crackers a coupole of good elbow smashes and lightly coat them in that.
Planked salmon is one of those delights that, to paraphrase Ben Franklin's oh so appropos comment about beer, "is proof enough that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Actually, anything that swims and that doesn't eat me first I will eat with extreme gusto.

ENCHILADA MRE!? Did they have a flan desert pouch to go with it?
I was always partial to the Freeze Dried Pork Pattie with the Freeze Dried Fruit Salad, Peanut Butter, Crackers, and the spearmint gum.
Now when they have a "King Salmon in dill sauce" MRE, we're really in decadence land!
Very best in the coming year!

Re: Salmon with creamed peas and baby potatoes
majroj - I think I'd at least carry a can of sardines as a provisional, although the enchilada MRE is soooo good...

Salmon with creamed peas and baby potatoes
Smoke jumpers in the Northwest and Alaska will sometimes jump with a small frying pan and collapsible fising rig in their personal gear. Beats MRE's maybe.
(As in "Maybe I'll catch something today. Wish I had one of those MRE's...").

That salmon sounds good...
We had prime rib yesterday so for the next couple of weeks we will know "where the beef" is.

TAPS - I grew up the same way. We always had macaroni (w/ tomatoes)
and black eye peas with our salmon. Thanks for reading.

When I was a kid, I didn't know there was such a thing as fresh salmon filets. Canned salmon was what my mom always used and we loved those patties. She usually served them with creamed peas and mashed potatoes and we gobbled them down.
