Good on you, Sheila! The effects of sniffing Elmer's white glue sticks have worn off, I see?

I just got here, maj, what great emoticon controversy?

I seem to find great something or other controversies when I leave for awhile and return. Just a little something to remind me that I am a clueless human being and always shall live so.

My favorites and usually only used on your blog and I wonder why that is......

and they serve this artist as a self portrait or snapshot taken of me at that very moment.

 and azur's ,

benzinha and a Happy New Year to you all.

OK, Meoticon dropp;ing comments so far from the Canards:
Feel free to continue.

bpitter, you are hereby appointed den-leader for the rest of us.

As Freud didn't say, sometimes an emoticon is just an emoticon!

Lustorlove, I got your point. Here's mine..

On the Internet it is not always adviseable to do the predictable. Not that I am saying that any of our fellow "Blogistas" would "hurt" you, but other elsewhere might. If you whistle, a running jackrabbit will pause and turn; it's neat, but it's also how you potshot a jackrabbit. Be the jackrabbit sometimes who doesn't listen?

Never feel obligated to respond to every emoticon or comment. In fact, if you do, you may get higher ratings, but you may also encourage those just trying to get your attention. It's your blog and your Internet experience.

(A question occurs to me...maybe some folks aren't secure in their English, or emotonally vapor-locked, and emoticons to dozens of people are their way of trying to attract attention?).

Me? I don't let it bother me.

Newbie...
...well, since I'm a newbie more or less, I can't understand what you guys are even talking about. If there are other meanings for the emoticons, then I don't know what they are. A smilie is a smilie, a rose is a rose, and that's all I know. When I read a blog, I have comments and want to be interactive. Sometimes, I've found, I should have kept my mouth shut:) - but we live and learn!

i think one of the things that people don't like is when a blogger goes on 20 blogs and never says one word but leaves one of those emoticons instead of writing like they at least read the blog.  I read all my comments that I see and comment back unless they left one of those similely faces I say something in return.  Now you cant be that busy on all the blogs you supposedly go on that you cant say something

SpitFire70 and sam444....

Sam, I think SpitFire is the old school stand up blogger who feels obliged to reciprocate when folks drop a rose on her doorstep.

SpitFire, Sam is the old school subtle blogger who feels that even if he has no words to leave behind, he should at least drop a smiley.

Me, I drop a hundred words where none will do sometimes on blogs so old NO ONE will read them, but if someone's comment riked me, I would, in the words of a blogger not of Blogit, "delete it with glee".

How about this: if you don't like someone just dropping a rose or lips or a beer mug on your comment section, just delete it? If you want to see who left it, peruse everything but their actual blog first; if it looks like auto-marketing, don't read the blog.

I think it's great you each and both have this much to say about it. Feel free to comment away here, I'll go get the guacamole and chips, but why not post also? (I don't object to folks cutting their own stuff and post, er, pasting it back to their own blog).

Geri, no hard feelings? I bet your emoticon had lots of roses but the sheep ate them!

Hey, did you cover up the bare breasted hula girl in your snack drawer post yet? (heh heh)

I won't insert one here.
Maj! I was just kidding. What I left really had no meaning. I just thought they looked funny together. I was poking fun at the things I see here. Really, please don't take offense. (no smiley inserted here)

I think one should be able to comment or not. The idea of folks trying to gain a read without reading is beyond my comprehension. Whether one leaves an emoticon is left up to the commenter. People are going to abuse the rules no matter where we are. I hope you continue to do what you feel is right. I wish you well and if you come to my site please be comfortable with using emoticons or words, brief or lengthy.  Happy new year.     sam

Majroj,
Well, it could mean you love sheep that love bats and are slow to admit it. Just my opinion.  But who will ever know? I don't get it. We have always occasionally just left a "" or something else, if anything, when we just want to leave THAT. The question is...repeat repeat repeat repeats. Are they really reading? No. Are some trying to play on the vulnerability of others just to get a REAL return click? Yep. So sad. But, good news! I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico! No, J.K. Seriously, Shaycom is working on a new system so one cannot just comment without actually clicking on a post. Yay!! Maybe some more honesty will be afoot in Blogitville again! Hopefully, this new system will weed out the scammer comment spammers! Woo Hoo!
