Dinka, and gas leaks too!
Get a lttle light either with LED's, or with a big base bulb (not two little wires) you can change by braile if need be.

There's a certain quote - If ignorance is bliss, why do we spend so much on education? I suppose nobody at your office knew about UPS because the power raely cuts out, so they never felt the need for them.

At my office, the war is for everyone to have a UPS. And electricity shuts down all the time. i guess you don't really know what [electricity] you have until it's gone. Much as a power-cut drill seems hilarious, common sense is less common than it should be, and perhaps an explanation of the beeping would be helpful for that nice helpful person with the off-switch...

Actually, I think I ought to get a flashlight in my handbag. I had one on my cell-phone once, but that got knicked. Does a lighter count ? i don't smoke, it's for show, and for finding candles in the dark...

Overdue for a dress rehearsal, I think.  It brings to mind the adverts on Canadian TV that remind you to check your smoke detectors by pressing the button.   This doesn't check anything except the battery - how about the smoke detection part?

Benzinha...if there's one thing I have more of than knives, it flashlights!

And  little device that will let me run my cell phone on two AA cells, or recharge my cell battery from them.

Ans a cell charger in my car.

Where I work it's about the same setup. Lots of windows but the office i am in is small with no windows. The power went out and the duel emergency lights didn't come  on. The beeping started on the computers battery packs and i could hear people saying "what's that sound?" and the supervisor turning them off. I reported the fact that my office emergency lights didn't turn on and was told they were fine because they could see a little red light that said "ready". But I argued so what if the dumb lights don't come on! Nothing has been done. Oh... did i mention it was in a government building?

So, maj, you are saying that YOU DID have a flashlight?? I thought

that I understood that you were among the 'unprepared' there.....

The best laid plans of homeland security and it all falls apart in 80 minutes. I swear that jihadi don't have to bring down large buildings, just hit the small stuff and the screeching halt will be heard for thousands of miles.

On screen in the old DOS computers, as face came up screaming that the ship was about to go down and for everyone to SAVE themselves and their work, quickly and jump ship.....but, that's too low tech for today, I guess......

Goes to show how a green building might make it through these exciting moments, no? Solar panels and back up whatevers and canned lighting shafts that need no electricity....

It is past my bedtime, night.

Thanks Azur and Afzal.

These are supposed to be educated pro-active professionals.

Non wonder I'm trying to go back to the jails. I like them but it's bad to be the one-eyed guy in the country of the blind or something.
