Seedlings,
I get immediately turned off by crap like that. B.S. is B.S. If I were you, I'd take what you can and learn what you can and after the month is up, say bye bye. You can do many of the same workouts at home with water-filled milk jugs and walking around the block and stuff...for free!!

~~~~~~~~"Curves threw me a curve ball~~~~~~~~~~~
It's not only gyms that works that way. All businesses does! At least here in SA they do! Back to the weight problem. I've been battling with my weight now for almost 6 years. Last year June I had my sugar tested! I was desperate to find out way my weight just go up and up. At that stage I was weighing 99 kg's! I would lose 1kg, just to pick up 2kg the next week, no matter what I did! Well, when I got my test results back, I wast astonished! My sugar level were 52 were it should only be 17! The doctor recommended that I should see a Dietrician ASAP! I did and never looked back! To date I have lost 15kg just by eating right and, in my town we don't have a gym, I walk my son to school and instead of stopping in front of a shop, I'll leave the car a reasonable distance from the shops and walk the few yards! In stead of putting my packaging in a cart, I'll carry them to the car! Instead of using the lift, I'll climb the stairs! So maybe if we think creatively, we don't need to go to gyms, then they can't cheat us into joining them!
that is the way most companies do business, but its up to you to read the small print, I belonged to Curves for 3 years until they closed down in Oct of last year. It is franchised owned and the people owned the one I went to couldnt get anyone to buy it so they closed it out. I now walk three times a week with my daughter and use 3lbs weights for my arms, as I could see them getting flabby since I quit them. I paid $39.99 every month but I dont recall the fee to join.
Their policies are pretty much nation wide. Our little town Curves had some great specials during the summer -no contracts, no enrollment fees, $31 a month... Now I see an ad in our hair salon that says $44 a month! They told me if I moved to San Francisco a couple of years ago, my membership transferred but the monthly was $10 a month MORE in San Fran. My membership in '04 ran around $146. and it included my daughter. We paid $31 bucks a month apiece. That combined with Weight Watchers and weekly meetings I lost 50 lbs. just in time for the cad to come along. After the cad left me, I quit, and the weight has slowly but surely returned. My breakup with love put me in a tailspin and I just didn't care for two years. I have pledged to care this year. So far, my exercise program is at a gym that I don't go to but need to go to and my diet is homegrown. I keep losing and gaining back the same 5 lbs. for the last 2 months. Keep going to Curves, honey, it works! Good for you for sticking to your guns.
That was a dirty trick
and health clubs usually try to pull that on you. At least you'll be enrolled by the end of the month,. so hopefully you won't have to go through any more drama. Just remind yourself that you have to go tot take advantage of the facilities you're paying for!
Unfortunately gyms are like that. When I was at 24 Hr. Fitness, that was literally the pitch for their sales counselors.
