At the risk of getting suck into a maelstrom
I think there is some confusion over the word "need" in this context. I think what Ash was trying to say was that a woman can and should be competent and be her own person without a man in her life.
If she thinks otherwise, she is likely to become merely the slave of the first man who lays claim to her. The man can abuse her and she will rebel and flirt and even fall in love with another, but will say that she loves her owner -- for that is what he is -- and try to convince herself that she does.
For those who have escaped that trap, or have never fell into it, there is the next stage of finding someone with whom the healthy two become the more complete "we". The man and the woman each feel that they each need each other as a couple, their joint identity.
This is all quite apart from the sense of needing everybody else in the world, in John Donne's words:
"Every man's death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind. Therefore, do not ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee."

everybody needs somebody..............

Real man Needs Real women too...nothing real needs a 'fake' dont we think? but can very well stand on their own with or without someone...but having 'someone' enhances the beauty of existence...the fire to want to excel to make someone proud or oneself....i believe real person...bearer of depth...can probably turn the unreal to become the kind of 'real man/woman' they would have wanted for themselves...

Re: Only a real man could pull that off ...
Sam, there are many fine real women & men out there, you're clearly one of them..I felt I owed it to them to let them know how the world perceives them, so not only would they continue to confidently practice their values, but also help those that for whatever reason may not be so endowed ! - Ash

I love a woman who can say I love you for you, not for what you can provide. You would know exactly what I mean if you met my wife. She is a phenomenal person. She is not just my wife, she is my friend and respected comrade.

hmmm...my dear, tender and brave Poet ~ I like your style. Now, as far as women needing a 'man'? well I can't stop there, I wonder of man needing a woman, a child needing a mother, a father...I suffer the word '
need' --- to require? to demand? You see Ash, I pray my needs are simply met in the Love of Christ's arms then, I can be more satisfied by any condition this world may toss upon my little boat. I guess this statement- your poem depends on who's needing...who's bleeding and who's reading. It's all about 'individualism' I believe. I like your style, it makes me think deeply...from the pith of my soul ~
