- Go to The End Of America: Letter Of Warning To A Young Patriot -- Naomi Wolf
I catch it on occasion, FYS. I like Huffington Post. I also read
Andrew Sullivan's "Daily Dish" and Joe Klein's column in the Washington Post. I read Newsmax and watch a little Fox News and Glenn Beck to keep up with the far right. There are a few others I touch on now and again. Glenn Greenwald's 'Unclaimed Territory' blog on Salon.
And you're right, FYS. Our first duty is to ourselves as citizens. To help protect and preserve the republic, we must take an active part. The simplest, easiest way is to vote.

saul---I just finished this book the other day.
you are right. EVERY American should read this book. She spells out very clearly the state of America today, and reminds us that her freedom has a price tag...the vigilance of her citizens...ALL citizens. It's no secret to any of my readers that I believe our civic duty is our most imporatant responsibility as American citizens, and that voting is primary.
PS. Do you ever read Ms. Wolf's blog? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf

No, Soul Builder. You can't make people think, regardless of whether they
have a television or not. And you can't make them care, even if they do think. And even if they think and care, you can't make them act. Action takes initiative and motivation. Unfortunately, for most, it takes a 9/11 to become motivated, but by then a lot of people have become casualties of the senseless events that could have been avoided by a few simple acts.

Naomi knows her onions! She is on target and while Americans can't get enough of talk-shows, sex or other diversion, the message is being lost! Perhaps TV sets should be outlawed!

Oh, it's real alright. We're living it as we type, breathe, read, and live
The fear-mongering right-wing nutcases are whipping up the insecure in our midst, screaming about a Congress in recess while our country is unprotected against terrorists. Well, if the past several pieces of legislation are any indication, I'd rather they stay on vacation than pass some of their asinine legislation. Giving the NSA authority to surveille without even bothering to get a simple FISA warrant (ruled unconstitutional, by the way) proved to me that the politicians in Washington, especially many of the Republicans (and some of the Democrats) have completely lost their f**king minds...

Some of us are only too aware, TAPS, while we have the Britney watchers
and flat-earthers and the protectionistas lining up to be led by a government giving itself more and more control over all of us, driving most by the whip of fear. Scary, indeed...

Very good, Saul_Relative. Scary to think about, but good to know.
Things are happening quickly as we continue our daily grind, unaware that our rights are gradually diminishing.
