Tax exemption
If the kids live with you and you pay their expenses, it doesn't matter who the legal custodial parent is. They are your dependents according to the tax code.

I just checked my e-mail the other day. Thank you for yours. You probably don't remember it. It's alright because I thought you were a woman. Darn it! I forget the name of her blog and category. In any event, there are only two sides to every issue in politics. However, candidates that sway toward the middle on issues try to please everybody. They end up, pleasing nobody. In past election years, middle of the road candidates won voters' popularity contests. And, independent voters cast a strong percentage of votes in the fall. In past mayoral elections in New York City, only one party put a candidate on the ballot. Mayor Bloomberg's an independent now. Thus, a third party might find success in the next few years.

I applaud you for planning. The children's father will be no more than he displays at the moment. To fulfill his needs before the best interest and gifts that only send an incorrect message to the children will he will always be selfish. As you say , you have custody of the expenses but more importantly the kids will learn the true meaning of gift giving, for your love cannot be bought only given. The father is deluded because he shows otherwise. sam

Sounds like next time the boy next door has a tax refund,
you need to snag your share, with a quickness, like, all of it.

Re: To the little Mermaid
How nice of you to let me know that your mom isn't feeling well! You must be one remarkably caring daughter. Please tell your mom for me that I hope that she feels much better, soon. I am happy to have met you. Your mom should be very proud of you and I would be willing to bet that she is.

I feel it too, as do so many in New York. Wages falling, prices going up (especially rents) and yet there are those splurging all over. It's not fair!

Just know that you are NOT alone in your angst. Everyone I know is complaining about the same things you discuss in this post. It's crazy..............I'll be heading to the bank soon, to get a cashier's check to send to the IRS.......$4,400. OUCH. We all have to just "hang in there"......

tax agonies
Sounds like your wife should have a talk with her son; tough love might work. Garnish his wages, insist on forced a forced savings plan, like a Christmas Club. It's so unfair that he expects you to cover all of his own kid's expenses. I, too, am fed up with our future presidential choices - but I also hear grumblings from overseas, people who feel that the Party System is cumbersome and not effective. John Adams felt that the US should maintain a Monarchy. Maybe there's something to that!!!!
