First I would speak with your PO as soon as possible and explain the situation. He might be able to refer you to a social worker that can guide you towards the right places and people, or at the very least advice you as to what to do to get permission to visit your son if he is placed far. I don't know how old your son is but if he is under 18, you can call your church, Family services in your area, also the Department of social services can help. Get on that phone and dial anything and everything you can think of. Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the oil , so make noise!. you will find someone that will help. I am sorry to tell you that it sounds like your son will have to be committed for a while, probably until they find the right meds to control his problem. The place that can help him might be far from you but you have to follow up on this because the longer his problem goes untreated the harder it will be to treat, not to mention the danger that he might hurt himself or you or someone else, G-d forbid. Do not despair sweetheart, he needs you and you must remain strong. Everything will be OK, just find the help you need, its out there. I will pray for you. Good luck.

Sorry to hear this is going on.
I don't know how you feel about it, but I'm a firm believer in prayer.
Pray about it. God will show you direction. Contact your local Seventh-Day
Adventist church and ask for the community services leader. They have some
of the best programs I have seen. If they can't help you they will point you in
the right direction.

God has a plan, just ask Him. He will show you the way!

The ER doctor is right...
...in that your son needs in-patient therapy until he is no longer a threat to himself or others. Then, they can think about out-patient therapy. Hang in there, kiddo. Be strong for yourself and for him. I'll be praying for you.

Aren't there any socaial workers or community nurses who could help you? Unfortunately I'm not familiar with life in the United States in that respect but I just thought of that. I feel for you and my payers are with you and your son.
