Auslander, I enjoy reading your posts because I have never been to Germany and am not personally familiar with people there and their ways of relating to tourists.  I did find the waiters in Paris to be a tad overbearing and rude in nearly every instance.  On the other hand, I did not find that to be true in Madrid.  Its funny how different cultures are, and react to strangers.

Two WW's, the Shoah, and subsequent decades of depicting Germans as stupid villains on TV have had their inevitable effect on the world's perception of them...
