Appears to be a riddle of a veiled addiction;
If you hadn’t of ended the riddle with (one person), I would answer your riddle as an addiction; alcohol, drugs, an eating disorder or other obsession. The addiction or obsession unveiled can release any prior need (warmth), to the point of becoming revolting.
Since your exit referenced a person, how sad. To be obsessed and consumed with another is unhealthy for both. Love does not obsess or entangle, but exemplifies, releasing both to rise to their highest potential. Addictions or obsessions replace ID and deflate esteem.

I enjoyed the way you used dashes in this poem.
