KaBooM, you wrote about so many different things in this post and, as always, I love seeing your pictures along with it. What a nice stadium. What touches my heart though is your frustration with your relationship with your daughter. It is such a common thing at that age. She is trying to grow up and exercise her independence and you, whether you admit it or not, are trying to hold on and have control over the situation. By age 17, you have taught her everything you are going to be able to teach her. Now you need to learn to trust that you have done a good job, trust her to make her own decisions and allow her to make her mistakes and to learn from them by accepting responsibility and facing consequences when she makes a mistake. Believe me, that is the hardest thing of all for a parent to do--to sit back and let go while still being there to understand and to comfort. But, it is in doing just that, that she will become closer to you.

Kaboom
So nice to see you back with a long report. We had heard about the earthquake, of course, and although we knew it was further north, one can never be sure of these things, and I was getting a little worried.
It's nice that E is doing well with her soccer; too bad that you two haven't got much of a relationship. How are things between her and her Dad?
This business with FIL's teeth is disgusting! I've got a pretty strong stomach, but I wouldn't tolerate that! If I were you, I would get my husband to talk to him...
