Thanks all!
Yes it has been enforced!  I got some help because his care manager talked to hubby about it as it is a problem at day care too, he was grossing more people out than just me!  He really is senile and it takes watching over but you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, I and hubby, have to remind him at the end of most meals where his toothbrush is.  It is the least FIL can do because it really is important not to gross out the people who care for you!  The way I feel about my FIL is very simple, if he makes an effort to clean his teeth without being reminded, even if he todders to the sink after a little reminder, then he is a sweet old man, otherwise, he is a stuborn old coot!  It makes all the difference!  Hopefully enforcement will cause a new habit!

I agree with Naut

Your hubby should be stepping up and dealing with the denture issue! You graciously opened your home to your FIL, you've been taking really excellent care of his many medical needs--the least your hubby could do is take charge of this situation, which he knows is annoying you!

But since hubby has left it to you, it's time for some serious lessons in table etiquette--teeth stay in the mouth until you've left the table! Put your foot down, make it clear you won't tolerate that disgusting behavior anymore! It is your house, after all--you have every right to enforce rules.

Kaboom

Stupid officials, lousy yoga instructors - those are irritations I could live with, and have (well, not the yoga instructor part, never had any, lol.)

But having someone wash his teeth in his tea at the dinner table? It makes my skin crawl! I would put a stop to it, once and for all. And I must say I am disappointed in your hubby, that he doesn't talk to his dad. But if he's  chickening out of what should be his job , there is still no need for you to take this s***! Tell the old guy it's not done in your house, period! Pretend you're a sergeant major! No ifs or buts, and scream if you must! And you know what? In the end you'll feel so much better...
