Re:
I'd love to see your bike shop! As for me, I won't see mine for at least 1 1/2 month! Misere! I'm happy that everything's fine by you!

A very tough situation! I would let them handle it. It could back fire on you.
To let you know everything is fine with me. I am selling my house because I want to live in a neighborhood. I own a townhouse in a big complex and I have a one car garage. I have outgrown my space as well. I need one more stall for my bike shop! Too funny! I did put up a portable garage with a floor to store bikes. I even gave away a bike today! Too fun! Have a great day! sam

Unfortunally many parents do not take their roll seriously and blame the society and school.
A few years back we went to a class meeting when my son was in 7th grade as there were some students who didn't do their homework and behaved badly. One mother said: But honestly (chewing gum at the same time) we can't blame the kids. Maybe we should ask: what is the school doing to motivate our kids to do their homework and do the teachers show them any respect? I just learned that my daughter can't read, and they only tell me now!
The rest of us just looked at her like she was from another planet. Whatever happened to raising your own children, teach them manners and respect, helping them with homework etc. Needless to say her daughter was already smoking and drinking at the age of 14. I can only imagine what kind of mother she will be herself.
It can be hard to say no to your children and being the witch at times, but we are not their buddies, we are their parents. They will understand when they have their own children and I can't wait for the thanks I will get then - haha.

Re:
Thanks Harderup,I think that you're right: it is the "original" parent that should explain the rules to his kids.

Re: Auslander
Dear naut. it is not the Turkish that worries me here in Germany, it is the White Supremacists who believe that they have a birth right to beat up anybody different from them (or that they perceive as such). Even here in little Heidelberg, a young 19 years old Turk was beatten up by 3 of them last winter. So, if the Muslims could teach them a bit of respect, I'll take it.

With a birth rate of about 1.3, it won't be long before there won't be any Germans left anyway, lol. I'm not sure what the parental practices are among Muslims...

Coming in to a ready-made family is never easy. If she wants to have a chance at all, she should really sit him down and lay out the rules. He should be the one to tell the children that HE has decided this and that. If she comes in and try and raise them she will loose the battle before it begins.
Tell your friend good luck!
