Why otherwise intelligent (or not) people say silly things

I actually enjoyed your post(s) on this particular topic. I'm personally a big fan of quotes, but especially those that remind me how small a part I am in the grand scheme of the universe.

It is our ego- it is our sometimes lack of self-esteem or diminished self-confidence that causes us to put down others. It's the age-old advice we've gotten from our parents about bullies in school..."they're just jealous, baby." You see something another possesses be it high self-esteem, a fancy car, good job, good ethics, etc. And instead of just admiring it & letting it pass...our pride says, "Well...they might be x or y...but THIS about ME is better." when it's not necessary.

Anyone sensitive enough to it will be able to see right through the false pride to the weakened inner-self of that individual.

Here's a quote I thought you'd enjoy:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

ACTUALLY RESTATESMAN IS SOMEONE TO IGNORE
I do 99% of the time.

Only when he makes radically incorrect statements or tries to make a villain into a hero do I reply.

Then morality necessitates a reply.

RSM
You are the only one who wishes to show himself to be full of pure ignorance and to lack all understanding about human nature and the heart of what spirituality and inspiration really is.  You see a good post does not really need anyone to comment about it for it to have gotten them to think and prove its point.  Since you are unable to think (instead you wait for those half-witted conservative fundamentalists your worship to tell you what to believe), you have to comment on such posts in order to feel as if you have even the slightest clue about anything.

I really do find it very telling that you wish to say that the heart of inspiration for humanity is a 'joke'.  It really does show just how little you understand of our society and our history.

I will respond to this joke of a post, since I will probably be the only one,  by saying HA! You are a joke!
