Good, clear article
Personally I think there is a danger of missing out on much that life has to offer if we simply opt for not bothering to come to either "knowledge of that which transcends the mundane materialists scope of knowledge" or "that which transcends the one book tells you everything without you having to do more than read it" point of view. I don't think everyone should do this or that and the reality we deal with daily confirms that Life itself (God for me) didn't want that to be the case either up until now.
For any process to evolve to greater complexity (which we ultimately don't have to get to either, but which has kept me interested thus far) we need strong polar disagreement to pull at the fabric of Life and urge us to greater certainty as a result of the adventure we encounter during our search for Truth. Accepting the view of "no knowledge of the supramundane is possible", the view of "the supramundane doesn't exist" or the view of "it is exactly as described by so and so" are all limited in scope as far as I'm concerned. Once we throw all these into the same melting pot, we can cipher the Gold through the froth and get every thirst quenching drop.
I do think we have reached a great enough level of complexity for now and need a rest by concentrating on the goals we share; meaningful coexistence and an acute awareness of what is needed to make the world of humans last as long as possible without the constant and wholly unnecessary suffering of millions of people who just want to live their lives without fear and hunger. No amount of bickering about our differences in perceptions about reality will solve our greatest yet challenge: To survive as a species against the odds we ourselves are setting up.
I'm getting carried away - Cheers!
