auslander, similar to the tick would be a leetch...little worm-like blood
sucker that attaches itself anywhere it can..
...about the only way to get rid of one is to light a match and burn it off....

There's lots here they haven't got in Oz! Squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, coyotes, foxes, cougars...come to think of it, they probably
do have cougars...

I have to admit....you're certainly right.......a polar bear would be a hell of a lot more difficult to remove from your dog's back than a tick!
