opossoms, raccoons and feral cats keep the smaller animals away from our place. One day I saw a large feral cat catch a squirrel and eat every single bit of it except for the very end of the tail. I've never seen a squirrel in our yard since. We do have lots of birds but they stay up in the trees.

Ah, the joys of living in the country! We don't even live in the country, and we still feed any manner of bird, plus chipmunks, sqirrels, rabbits, the odd possum, skunks, raccoons and coyotes (well, we feed the coyotes indirectly, by feeding the others, lol)...and we don't even see the mice, gophers and rats...
