Re: benzinha, you are right on

Greenfields, your Gandhi said so many politically or rather, socially astute things, but didn't have the wherewithall to understand how a nation must work in this huge world. It's why Nehru took it and ran with it.

We would, under Mohandas' watchful eye, within our neighborhoods and families, like to exhibit more communist ( some will jump me now) behavior as Mohandas suggested. By that I mean, helpfulness, volunteerism and care and watchfulness for opportunties to come to aid within those neighborhoods, families, cities and then states and the like. Keeping the ideas small and exquisitely do-able.

Then there is the other need, a outward looking and dealing one, between nations, etc, but neighboring naitons could be more helpful and less destructive, too.

Idealism , the bane of my existence......because I see that tribal and village behavior could save everyone when the best ideas and solutions and plans came out of the community and were shared.

Re: I think you are absolutely RIGHT, Benz!..:)

Yup, I see that someone must change something soon or scary, hungry and angry things might occur.

I would like to see another party appear that held the middle and bottom  of the country in their hands, again....

Re: politicians/young and old

I know, mordent, but let's not shoot them, the young,  in the foot while they are trying to run with the truth of idealism and a better America, right now, Okay??

Otherwise, we old sharks would hang on forever and we need to be shaken up by clueless kids periodically, as some of them make it into positions of authority and they change things in some small and good way, quick before they become jaded old men and women.

Re: Re: benzinha

Shooting a dear deer is about the same, I think as killing an unborn child, but that's just my opinion. A lot like electrocuting a steer for McDonald's and Burger King, no?

Where can we go with this?? All life is sacred, to some.

People have bad teeth usually because of poverty and or no dental coverage and because of severe depression. Poverty breeds that depression and then it also causes one to eat a high carbohydrate diet which is cheaper and to reward one's downers with something sweet. Pretty much a vicious downward dental spiral, I think.

Luckily mordent, you have more teeth, no?

And every other minority thought from a long ways back. Time to believe again that anyone, male or female can lead this nation and lead it well.

Re: I'm watching all this politics with amazement. You call this apathy

yup, kabu, it sure would be nice if everyone had free television and radio and newspaper and online time and space to run for office. And, if they all had to spend the same amount then wouldn't that level the palying field? Not this, he who has the most $$$$ wins.

apathy still has its hands on America and I am hoping that somehow it can be whipped out of them by injecting political enthusiasm into both parties, and not just political money injected.

Obama's people are trying to take it to the streets and door to door and voter by voter. Mom's Republican foothills neighborhood is slowly but surely puttingup more and more Obama yard signs. We do a little victory dance each time a new one goes up.

But, yup, the political money could buy my doctor's visits and my dental visits, could fix roads and raise teacher's salaries and bring down daycare costs, many things which can't happen right now.

Maybe that money could even build new businesses right here in America. A strange and ancient concept, but still in the economic textbooks.

Re: benzinha

I appreciate your knds words, WileyJohn, and funny that you would say that pro-lifers must kill something, my words, actually.

It is a crazy mixed up "Just What the Heck are we Talking About Anyway" kind of platform for both sides.

I object to Governor Palin for so many reasons, and most of them involve imagining her sitting and talking as an equal with leaders of foreign nations when she has no experience at much of anything and diplomacy seems to be her weakest 'strength'.

The idea of Gov. Palin's hand and finger hovering over the red telephone and the nuclear weapons' button has me upchucking in horror.

I think you have an excellent platform. Now to get people to listen to it!  sam

benzinha, you are right on
I am really not interested in regressive thinking, morals or politics.  The Republicans, like conservatives everywhere, are so out of touch with reality, its not funny.  It tiring and I too get fed up.  But, you know what.  Since I am an eternal optimist I know that there is no future for conservatives, aywhere in the world. And, thank God for that!

I think you are absolutely RIGHT, Benz!..:)
Forget parties, labels and all the mumbo jumbo we all get so distracted by, Change happens when we the people will it to happen - the older, stuck-in-the-mud pols ignore this truth at their peril, cause America's getting poorer and hungrier by the hour for the majority. I think it will become evident this election and then, if the Dems./Obama don't deliver, maybe then the rise of Independents, independence from status quo can truly begin in earnest.
Excellent post!

politicians/young and old

I'm afraid Obama is just another corporate suit at this point. Don't be taken in by all his talk. Once a man sits in that seat he becomes that character. A lawyer is a lawyer. A politician is a politician. He is wearing an American pin now of course and often he is trying to appeal to these mid-Western types. His choice of Biden is an attempt to be McCain just like McCains pick of Palin is an attempt to be Obama!

Obama will say and do anything to get elected just like any other poliltician and he will do what his handlers and financial suppliers wish just like all the rest of them. He is nothing but empty rhetoric and this appeals to naive youth.

This is where the young fail you see. They can't see the line between non-fiction and reality. THey're high on hopes and ideals and have absolutely no idea how the real world works. That is why the old have what they have and the young don't tend to have as much. They simply haven't figured out the game yet but yet they're so confident they know how to fix it!

Re: benzinha

Shooting a dear is much different than killing an unborn child don't you think?

Speaking of health care, why is it that so many people have bad teeth where there is socialized medicine? Is it because dental isn't covered they simply don't care for their teeth?

then don't go to Australia where no one ever takes the slightest interest in politics. We did in the days of the Vietnam War. Yes and we did vote for "it's time" when we really needed to address the lack of social justice that we had left over from the previos century of thinking and we did need to get rid of the white Australia policy but these days it's just hohum and no one wants to know. One thing I really don't get though is the money spent on these campaigns. To me it really is crazy.

A great blog post luv, and I admire you for being able to itemize and sort things out, a lot of which I agree with because it isn't much different in Canada.

We do have health care and I can't say anything bad about it anymore since they saved my butt after that heart attack.

I do find politicians an odd lot though. I like this Sarah Lady but I'm a bit confused over her moral stand in the advertisements.

She's a pro-life hunter type person, I guess the killing something just has to be part of her agenda. I just hope she doesn't shoot a buddy when she's out there hunting eh? LOL

Well we have an election happening here now too; Conservative 'dead eyed Harper' against the Liberal 'Green Shift Dion'.
