I know from experience how difficult it is to get a good night's sleep when you are caregiver to an Alzheimer's patient. During the years when I cared for my Dad 24 hours a day, five days a week, I chose to "sleep" in the bedroom right off of the kitchen. I would leave the door open so that I would hear him when he got up at night and began his wanderings. He always started in the kitchen looking for something to eat. Then he would be out the door to wander the neighborhood is his kitchen noises didn't waken me (which they almost always did). Now and then he would get out and get lost. I have always been so thankful that I had a sister to spell me on weekends so I could go to my own home to recuperate.
