Sounds like a Great Celebration

we had several parades in our local towns on Tues. and Veteran's Day celebrations at the memorials each town has erected for their veterans who have served and who have died.

There are probably several reasons that people are paying more attention
including the ones you mention.
I suspect the Presidential election over here has also had the effect of waking people up worldwide to the precarious global situation.
I don't think it's American arrogance to say this, with the evidence of worldwide celebration and reaction to Obama's win. Speaking for myself, I am tired of being afraid, of being distrustful, of despising the leaderships of several nations who contribute to the uncertainty of the world's future. Here, in the US, I don't refer only to Bush, but equally to the Republicans who would take us back decades in human and environmental understanding, and the Democrats who have let Bush et al get away with all they have in the past 8 years.
Suddenly, with the election of a man chosen for "the content of his character rather than the color of his skin" and that character including educated intelligence, optimism, good humor and personal integrity, and a global kind of personal life experience, there is the enthusiasm of hope where there has been the apathy of hopelessness.
Some of us are maybe addressing ourselves to the Divine to say "Thank You!" and some to acknowledge, "I guess You really are paying attention!"

Claire was supposed
to have been taking part in a similar parade with the Guides but she preferred to watch last night's recording of X Factor instead!
