Change comes hard.
It is an inescapable aspect of human nature that we attach emotional anchors to all things sensed, to what we hear particularly. So when changing the literal sounds of the service, folk who attach much comfort and faith and emotional reliance to those anchoring sounds, are going to feel (seemingly) inordinately threatened. It won't make sense even to them, how upsetting such changes can be.
It will feel as if something set in the bones of the Earth by God is being vandalized.
When I was a kid, some things simply were what they were, indelibly, and when the political map altered, with the change from The Congo to--what was it, The Peoples' Republic of Congo?--I was aghast and indignant, and some part within me simply could not believe anyone could even do that! There are still things by which I find myself startled and unsettled, because they have changed and I never realized they could!
