I have a fear of flying...haven't flown in over 23 years.
my friends say that maybe I should try to take a short route just to calm my fear. With my luck that plane would be the doomed one.

I was just commenting on a post from ariala where she mentioned Casablanca. When I was an attorney I had an office in Marbella and went to Casablance countless times. Contrary to you, I'm a flight enthusiast and that trip appealed no end. Imagine: a 12 seater just skimming the Mediterranean, touching down, throwing the passengers off in a hurry and taking off again. It would have given you a heart attack! Thanks for your lovely wishes. Same to you - flight free - I hope.

The stats are in you favour when you're flying - but these days I prefer driving because I actually like it, and because flying has become a huge hassle...
And Happy Hanukah to you and yours!

Oh Mal, I am so with you on the driving as opposed to flying! It just scares the life out of me! I have to have a sedative to fly! sammy

I had a similar experience...
...when flying over Pittsburgh back in my Navy days, during a thunderstorm.
The plane quivered and quaked like...never mind that...but, I know how you feel. lol

Are you there yet?
I hope all went well, no complications, no exasperations or delays! And no bumps!

Gap, this does seem like a good time for not flying. I turned down an invitation to FL for Christmas because of that. I'm not afraid of flying, but it doesn't thrill me either.

After a mishap like the skidding off the runway thing,
everyone gets very, very careful for a while. You should be fine on that count!
I hope the air remains smooth for you, and the landing is neat and easy.
