Re: Nicknames. No, I don't mean guys named Nick.

       Sam,

You have an "Uncle Ashcan," TOO?

My family had or has people named, Bert, Stretch, June bug, Mickey, and except for June bug, they were all girls! June bug is my Dad's nickname, for "Junior". Bert was my aunt Roberta. Stretch is my aunt Shirley. I really don't know my aunt Mickey's real name, but I do know that it is one that is profoundly different than what most people would guess. It doesn't even begin with the  letter "M," that much I know.

My dad "got around," some in his youth (Tall, handsome devil) , Hmmmmmm. Naw! There are probably dozens, no, HUNDREDS of Uncle Ashcans out there.

Guy...
My nomme de plumme?  Bic, of course!  Hee Hee.  Ok, seriously, my mother's name is Geraldine and she likes it just fine.  I, of course am so fortunate that she gave me the name I have.  Why, you ask?  Because, coincidentally, that's what everyone calls me!  Pardon me while I change my name to pun4all or nonsensicallistallycaligragilisticantidisestablishmentariast4, or something like that.

Re: Nommes de plumes.

      Sinome,

I think that you may have hit the nail on the head! This makes sense. Many bloggers must find it necessary to assume the character of an alter ego, in order to escape the reality of a dreary, grinding, empty unloved life. If one can claim to hobnob with celebrities, party with world-renoun and reveared leaders of state and religion, and fabricate ficticious awards, a busy life devoted to disseminating wisdom to hordes of followers and groupies, raptly recording every word uttered by this charismatic figure, the blogger may feel a little better about getting up in the morning. Writing this thought to you, has reminded me of someone that I have met, but the name of this person escapes me! I must see this person every day because I can picture his face, it is right there on the tip of my tongue, but I CAN"T think of the NAME! Don't you just hate that? The thought that makes me shiver, is that if the alter ego is such a benevolent and good person, does that mean that the blogger in question, is actually his own evil twin? If I can figure out who I am trying to think of, I'll let you know. It'll come to me sooner or later.

loll Guy... its OK... Blogit is like our alter ego dwelling so having a different "handle"  its acceptable... Sooner or later one discovers the other's real names and start calling them by it...or not, it all depends if one wants to get close or stay in anonimity... the nickname gives one the choice I guess...  You are hillarious... Thanks for the laugh

Hey, I like that...hmmmm, Hazel St. Grasshopper...lmao. You know, when I first started blogit, I lived on Hazel Street, and I thought, I'll be like a cricket that chirps all night long driving everybody nuts...lol., hence, the cricket part of the name. Then i moved. I thought about changing it to Cricket, but  many call me Hazel, so I thought, heck with it. I like the handle...lmao..you crack me up.

I'm happy with my real name which is Michele
shelly is my nickname from when I was a kid.  One of the restaurants that I worked in several years ago had a cook that sang the Beatles song Michele everytime I walked into the room.
