Isn't it interesting that if it wasn't for that renegade Jew, Saul of Tarsus, other than the Eastern religions there would only be Judaism. No Christianity, no Islam.... Perhaps we would all be living in peace together, then. But I guess that's wishful thinking. Someone else would have broken away with some other religion and we'd still be killing each other. Sad creatures, aren't we?

HI GAPCOHEN ....i was about write about THE ZIONISM ..I WILL DO ..asour definition is different than you ..IN 19TH CENTURY THEREWAS ONLY 2000 JEWISH LIVING IN PALESTINE ..THEY WERE LIVING PEACEFULLY WITH MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIAN ...THEN you are misleading the people by saying you were kicked out from other countries which is not true ..you were willingly coming as immigrants and all that by the arrangement from that countries' governments ...you can check my post which I put yesterday and which I will put today ...THANKS

A good thumbnail sketch. But, although I don't think of myself in those terms, if I had to put a label on my position, I'd call myself a Zionist, and am also aware of the negative connotations the term carries these days. I mean, who isn't aware of that?
I prefer 'Zionist' to 'Israeli-ist' because it's less awkard (you gotta practice saying 'Israeli-ist for a while before you can get it out without tying up your tongue in a knot, lol), and also because I don't feel like making concessions to those who use 'Zionism' in a negative sense.
I remember getting a surprised reaction from Muslim acquaintances, when I told them to watch their language because I was a Zionist. "Are you Jewish?" "No." "So how come you're a Zionist?" I wasn't going to get into a lengthy discussion, so I asked, "Are you Arab?" "No." (They're Pakistani.) "So how come you're Muslims?"
I thought one stupid question deserved another...

Hallo Mal!
I too am Jewish and in so far as I support Israel as a nation state am a Zionist; though this does not mean that I agree wholeheartedly with Israel government policies, neither do quite a few Israeli citizens either. After all democracy means free discussion.
I have also succeeded in shocking a couple of non-Jewish friends by describing myself as a Zionist; as you so rightly say this word has negative undertones.
I look forward to reading your next contribution.
Best wishes

Great post
I had this argument with someone a couple of years ago - this person called someone a "Zionist" as if they were spitting it out of their mouth.

Mal if you look at a list of contributions to technology advances
in say the last 25 years = the list from Israel is astounding. Such a small country that has produced so much. It is amazing considering the wars and the attacks!

Such a great little country.
