Auslander
Some cultures just have different attitudes towards animals. In China, the Chow-Chow was bred to look like a lion, but also as a working dog and for the meat...
Under Islamic law (sharia) dogs are considered unclean, and a few years ago an Iranian mullah suggested that all dog owners should be arrested...

I have been bitten very nastily in the face by a dog when only about 9 years old. And it was a Dackel!! Nothing like your 'rabbit'. I am simply afraid of dogs and though I don't scream or give nasty stares when I share the elevator with people and their dogs, I give them a wide berth and watch my ankle. I certainly never ever touch or stroke another person's dog, even if they are pocket sized. I think the aversion has much more to do with personal expriences than with nationality.

I don't know for sure where they are from but certain countries have religious issues with dogs. Some tribes even believe that demons inhabit dogs. They won't even chase a dog away for fear of repercussions.

auslander, some people have an unusual fear of dogs, big or small..we had
a staff member from a country in Africa who was deathly afraid of another staff's dog, a well trained Doberman who was a big baby and extremely friendly...I don't know if the country people come from has anything to do with the fear or not..
..
lol...a 95 pound bunny, eh? I'd probably be scared the 1st time I met him, too, but that would be all..
