We most certainly knew she meant no harm by her words and believe me, my aunt was most certainly not offended (I've seen her when she's offended and it's not a pretty sight). We were simply having a little fun at her expense.

This is such a well written piece. The repayment for excellent service, helping with a solution to your dilemma and giving you special prices was a sad commentary for one more opportunity for the coming together of the races. The woman you described would have assumed any elderly woman with a much younger man would be his mother and she considers a southern woman's male children to be her boys. She was simply paying all of you a compliment with the same words she would have to white people. I think someone had to dig deep to make anything else of
Boys in that case. I am sorry for all involved in this; even those who do not know anything really bad happened here.
