I grew up in a haunted house, too!
Our ghost was a night-time knocker. Stay-over guests beware! The creaky stairs made quick and quiet escape impossible for a would-be prankster, but there was never anyone there when the knocker came-always right around 4:00 am.

Perhaps you may be surprised that in my old country, ghosts- we call them duppies- stories are used by our elders for all sort of reasons. And when we were preteens we believed all of it.
