Re: I think there is way too much hype about sexual preference in this damn
cricket hi

, lol. really, all our problems are right inside our head, eh? if only we really read our bible well enough, so much would be better. and this applies to every other holy book in the world. those seers thousands of years ago were way ahead of 'our' times today!!! seeing as there was one in every part of the world, have we really moved ahead or what? let's just have a drink and forget about it tonight.

I think there is way too much hype about sexual preference in this damn
country. I am straight as hell, but I could really give a shit one way or another if someone is gay or straight. Some of the best people I know are gay. It all comes down to our overly paranoid , closed minded, Bible thumping upbringings. OOPS...shutting my big yap now.... lol

Re: Isn't it sometimes in the most inappropriate circumstances...
hi metal, you might have noticed that i have deleted my original response - i maintain emphatically that i am very ashamed of my silly reaction to the whole taxi episode. but that a lot of good came out of it, is also true.
the reason i am doing this now, is because of what hit me last last. i am very upset about it. we were at a friend's place for dinner. two of our friends took a ride with us. one of them was gay. this guy had read my piece and we'd had a massive discussion on it- that's what actually gave me the courage to post it here.
last night, we got talking about a gender issue that has become political in bangalore and India also generally - this is taking up a ridiculous proportion of public discourse. somehow, this lead to my gay friend to humourously comment that we were lucky the leader of that group did not know of any homosexual presence at our party.
what followed was a very shameful display of ignorance, apathy and denial. all this amongst a group of close 'friends' ! i came away feeling rather deceived.
i now feel i have no right to explain my stand at all, when society so unforgivingly makes it difficult for those who actually have to spend their every day explaining to someone or the other.
metal and sam, your sister and brother resp. are truly fortunate to have your support and love. we need more wondeful people like yourselves and others who have shown their open minds here, in these times rampant disharmony. Thankyou.
naut, i eagerly await your notes to take shape. hope you are feeling better.

Isn't it sometimes in the most inappropriate circumstances...
...that the impulse to laugh is the strongest?
That aside, my younger sister is gay and my favorite uncle died of AIDS back in '84...both of whom have...and had...hearts of gold, respectively.
The persistent closed-mindedness of some to the issue of sexual orientation is so unfortunate...especially in this day and age!

sorry guys and gals
I've done it again! i have replied to your comments (how very nice of me!!
) and not named three of you!!
sorry if this is looking over-indulgent, but hey, i'm feeling guilty, so please let me do my penance. starting with this as No 1, my responses from top to bottom read: TAPS - No 3, Sam - No 7, and Nita - No 8 . just how irritating can this be? i'll need to devote a post to answer that - very very sorry.

Re: Hi By,
welcome back naut, how are you feeling?
i look forward to reading your thoughts, but please get well fully before you get on to serious things like your in-depth series. they also can be quite demanding, like you say

Like i said, once we sensitise ourselves more than some of us like to, a lot will be understood and solved.

now you are someone who is very close to this. it affects you directly - brother is lucky, to have your support and understanding.

and you are also very lucky to 'be' the wonderful person you are

lesser people are having a rather rough time

Hi By,
I'm just sort of edging back into circulation, and thought I'd drop in at your place for a quick look-see. And I certainly wasn't disappointed: First the hilarious description of your taxi ride, and then the very thought-provoking remarks at the end. It's too late in the evening for me to even begin to address those issues, but I have noted them and shall get back to them. As soon as I have finished my current little series, which is hanging over my head like a dark cloud, demanding attention...

I liked the close too! I have a brother who is gay and has had a tough road to go! I wish that it could get resolved! I feel for him, he did not seek to be gay it is just him! I have friends who are gay and it is the person who is most important to me not the sexuality of the person! sam

I couldn't agree more with the concluding sentences; we are often too rigid and judgmental. Thanks for stopping by! Nita.

i am really apprehensive about this one
.
so far my manuscript (i still hand write my rough draft) has received a strange mix of responses. from evoking a lot of forward thought and very productive discussions to downright ridicule (thankfully from very few- but people who mean a lot
) , i've so far dealt with a fair bit of drama. i really look forward to your response - it is an important issue and i really want to get as close to the truth as possible, with regard to general view. are we really as open minded as we pretend to be / believe we are?
