Comments on Bernard Lewis and the Clash of Civilizations

Civilizations came and gone. Some of them disappeared and some of them stayed. But religions were there to stay. I think there is a place for everyone in this world. We need to have harmony and understanding with different religions that came from God.

Not all Christians (and presumably not all Jews, Musloims, Hindus, Buddhists etc.) believe that. Some of us believe that there are many authentic paths to God.

Civilizations have always clashed and probably always will.  Religion stays right there in the middle of everything.

Christianity is a factor in the Middle East conflict...
...to the extent that the Fundamentalists(who now own the Republican Party) believe the role that the Middle East plays in alleged Biblical prophecy, and unfortunately much of America's foreign policy in that region has been based on such nonsense.

gap

I fully agree with Bernard Lewis on Judaism, but he misses the main difference between Christianity and Islam. It is certainly correct that "Only Christianity and Islam proclaim their message to all humanity, while also believing they are the fortunate recipient of God's final message to humanity, which is their duty not to keep selfishly to themselves."

But only Islam, as stated explicitly in the Koran and the Hadith, demands that the world be made to submit to Allah (who, as the God of Abraham, is thought of as being identical to the God of the Old and New Testament), not just by the word (ie. persuasion) but by the sword...

It may well be true that in the past, Christianity was also spread by the sword, but that was never central to the message itself, as is the case with Islam. And I really don't quite understand why Lewis fails to mention this absolutely crucial point, for he must have read the Koran, as I have...

The clash is inevitable! I agree! I think there is a place for everyone in the Lord's heart! Great entry! We need to cherish and understand our differences! It would be less stressful! sammy
