On a very subtle level this is the world we live in
and there is ego and there is submission of ego to the source and an elevation of the soul's consciousness. We are ultimately alone, but ultimately joined to the whole consciousness of the human race, yet on another level we strive for spiritual perfection that breaks down the boundaries and is a source of self love and fellow human love. To do that unconditionally we must get past the hatreds harboured in a pettier consciousness or sub consciousness and move to a sense of unconditional doing and believing.
But to answer your question, yes it is the world we live in. It is a material and petty world, a world of physical limitations and that is why we pray and hope to elevate our consciousness to extend beyond it. :-) have a good day and beware the 'enemy lurking in your head'.

We all have goodness and evil, light and dark, power and uselessness inside
We have all the power we need inside to change our worlds, but most of us can't even begin to fathom the powers we hold within.

Very true!
Remnds me of Mel Gibsons word in the movie
Patriot..."Why should I worry about a tyrant three thousand miles away, when I have three thousand tyrants a mile away?"
But, as Schneerson points out, those tyrants exist because we anticipate and accomodate them.
