Yes, they are well and truly stuck! Nowadays they would have opted for a divorce. Even in a miserable situation like that you find some kind of survival strategy. Thank you friends for taking the time to read and comment.

how sad for them both I think. They started so positive and in love but
without fully understanding what burying something so intrinsic to who they are would do to them and how different their views really were. I am wondering just where they can go from here.
