maybe the people they are sharing these years with are more fun and around
more than the relatives. Party to the end and go out with a bang. Sounds good to me.

maybe they just don't trust their relatives but what about the fellow residence isn't there a good chance they will die first?

Life is for the living, and a party in honor of someone who's departed
makes more sense to me than almost any other thing you could do with the money. As for the relatives who were too busy to be involved with their elder, who forgot or never realized how important a simple visit could be -- turn about is fair play. Forget 'em.
