Re: My Misconception
I think that many immigrants in Europe would like to go back to their home countries when they've either made a fortune or when they retire. It does not often work out that way. Very few of them become wealthy. They stay after retirement because their children are here and it's not that easy to move back to the home country;  things have changed there too.

My Misconception
I used to think most of the Hispanic population here wanted to stay in America. Many of them intend to go back to their homeland.

I did not realize how feared it was! I think American tv and movies have created a distortion for everyone! Shelly

Re:
If people just watch the usual stuff on television they probably think that way.

Re: I grew up
Being a real tough little tomboy I seem to remember siding with the cowboys.

Re: I'm sorry to tell you this, but cowboy culture in America is a faded
I thought as much; our tv is about 75% American, and I'm sure that it paints a very misleading picture of life in your country.

The subject of cows never seem to come into any of my conversations with anyone except on Blogit.  LOL

Better cowboys and Indians than Michael Moore's crazy Americans!!  I live (and grew up) on the East Coast - about 45 minutes from New York City, so cows around here are confined to upstate farms.  I lived in Texas years ago, though, and can attest to the fact that cowboys are still alive and well!  Mal

you are so right about set ideas, I live in CA and so many people think we are all rich and Hollywood stars.  Or we are going to fall in the ocean with the earth quakes, or we are all a bunch of drug addicts.  I am sure the list goes on.  I know I am mind set about certain races.

My childhood influences were similar to yours.I too visualise cowboys and indians. I used to love those old films....

I grew up
watching westerns and then acting them out in my Grandad's garden. Funnily enough I usually wanted to be a Red Indian

I too loved the "westerns"! Betty, you're never short of interesting posts! Hope you're doing well. Nita.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but cowboy culture in America is a faded
memory, a minor sub-genre. The cowboy's story is no longer seen on prime time TV. We watch cops, crime detection, lawyers, doctors, emergency rooms, nurses. Our sitcoms feature hip young couples, or career women and their friends, very few with extended families or children. I don't think there's even a current situation comedy involving small-town or country people. Rodeo is shown from time to time on sports channels, but only a limited number of people know the names of world champion bull riders.

My own set ideas about people in Denmark
Elinjo,
I think that many of the people living in Denmark, must be zany, (in the nicest way possible) caring and highly intelligent, if you are any example. You're three for three!
This would be a little bit longer comment, but I gotta go saddle up ol' Paint and chase off some pesky rustlers now, so I can be back before Cookie makes breakfast for all the ranch hands, at the bunkhouse! Meet ya at the watering hole if the wild Indians haven't taken it over, for their pow wow. They start in drinkin' that damn firewater, & wanta skalp everything in sight!
