I don't think it should have been disclosed! But we are so judgmental at times! Excellent post! It is actually a bit more common than I had thought among older women! I had recently read an article in MORE magazine regarding this issue! Shelly

wow I hadn't thought about the older lady story before, but I think it
would be best never to tell people who it isn't their business anyway. Kids are soooooo judgemental.

Re: I've had several friends who discovered late in life why they'd been so
I've known some to! When I was about 20 I had a very good-looking boy-friend, who was also intelligent and very courteous. He took me home to meet his family and they made a great fuss of me. However he never held my hand or kissed me, which I thought was a bit too well-bred. We have remained friends and years later he confessed to me that he was gay. The saddest part of the story IMO is that he never, ever dared to take the consequences and find a partner

I've had several friends who discovered late in life why they'd been so
miserable in their marriages. They loved their children, in some cases had them "stolen" by the husband and the legal system. We make some mighty big assumptions, especially about family. The answer to your riddle is a perfect surprise, almost obvious once we know it. Very realistic dialog here, shows your characters' homophobia perfectly.
Write on!

Great dialogue.
Betty, this story is great, keep at it. I like your little anecdote about older woman learning they are actually lesbian.
