If A. didn't realise what 'he went off to find his youth,' meant, he must be kinda slow on the uptake. In my case, she went off to find her youth.
As for C. not helping very much, I always consider a story to be the author's story, and the author's style. Me sticking my twopenny worth in isn't going to do anything except get the author's bile up, although I know there are some times when I would have to remark.

Seems to me they could learn a lot more from you than you can from them. You're published and polished and the real apple on your own teacher desak luv.

This is why I have absolutely no desire to join one. What do they know?

I agree you'rethe one who editted so beautifully for me awhile back
you have books in print and your work is very easy to read and believable. I always rush here daily to get my fix. If the group consists of teachers and superior males it just won't last long. Your circus peace is fine as it is with as you say a tweek here and there.

What do
you need a writing group for? It was you who commented extensively and helpfully on my first chapters, so I daresay you are the teacher but not in need of being taught.

I don't think I would do well at
The Write Place. I'm too opinionated and don't much like being around opinionated people like me. LOL

Whatever happened to "show, don't tell""? I believe you did a fine job at showing. Like elinjo said, it doesn't take a great stretch of imagination to surmise what "he went off to find his youth" means. It reminds me of Mrs. Gump's response to the question "Where is your husband?" in the movie
Forrest Gump: "He's on vacation." (Spoken with a wry twist of the lips.)
Anyway, I'm considering joining a local writer's group but not without trepidation. I fear the stuffy people more than anyone.

Re:
Your remark about the husband going off to find his youth was an invitation to the reader to use his/her imagination. By overstating and explaining why he did it would spoil the pleasure. I understand why you do not want to waste more time in that particular group.

Never been part of one - but then I've never written anything that would 'fit' there (academic stuff don't count), and I don't think I ever will. So yes, 'writing group, shmighting group' pretty well describes my own attitude - only with me it's more or less permanent...

Not every writer's group is the right group... I found this to be true at a similar B/N sponsored group where the range of writing was vast and the quality often half-vast, and absolutely no one there was into reading the genre I was writing. Gotta find the right group for you, even if it is only one other person.
