I think it depends on the person, but some solitude is definitely a good thing. I require it in large doses at times. About the past...it's the sweet parts that are standing out now; the bitter aren't so bitter anymore. Sweet parts meaning...being able to raise my kids as a mainly stay at home mom, our country house and the good memories there, etc. Surprisingly, the parts I can still remember (that make me mad or feel unfair) have begun to translate out as humor, which STUNS me. People's minds are delicate, yet so amazingly resilient. It's uncanny what they can go through and still come out all right. I appreciate your expression of empathy, that is very kind.

Re: abanerjee
And Darson I'm not even married, but I do like aloneness not loneliness, all-oneness, in other words. You write beautifully of the sourly lemonade experiences while not wishing it on even your worst enemy. I am sorry to learn of the extended bitter experiences of your life ... but it has turned you into a fine conversational (sensational) writer. My emoti thingies are working perfect so I'm sending you these  D ~ Aba.

Thanks so much for being willing to read through my rather long post to see if you could get something good out of it. I'm glad you felt you did, Pat B! Have a lovely day.

Thank you for the compliment, abanerjee! The only thing I can think of is that you have to get real lonely in a realllly long and drawn out, loveless relationship for about....say....twenty years....and then since its not really proper to gripe to the whole world, have a journal where you pour your heart out, almost daily, most sincerely. Yep. Pouring your heart out in a journal for about two decades should do it....Seriously. That's the only thing I can figure has been any kind of training to be a somewhat conversational writer....pure and utter loneliness!....which, by the way, I would not wish on my worst enemy. Perhaps it was the lemonade that resulted from the lemons, eh? Oh, and THANK YOU for the flowers! Love that! (I was trying to give you a present but the emoticom thingies were soooo slow this moring...and I have to leave for my Art History class right NOW!) Have a great day, my friend!

Yeah....as far as the lesson she learned...it's one of those things you can't do anything about, other than maybe supplement a little by having her friend over more to our (crazy) home. She's asked constantly to have this girl over, and sometimes I'm okay with it, sometimes not because we have stuff going on, or I just want some private family time....but I think I'm going to be much more liberal with saying yes, now that I understand better...her friends says that she loves coming over. I would always be embarassed because their house is perfection; ours is a barn at times...but no longer. Sometimes a clean house isn't all that.....she might just want some attention...I love relating to you and I am a nutbutter freak, just so you know!!! That and chocolate....hold me back!!!

Awww! Affection....Thank you! I am happy to share our crazy family with anyone who's interested. We always joke that we have the college/therapy fund....whichever they need more, when the time comes...ha ha ha...only partially kidding, actually! I'm glad you visited...makes the world seem a bit smaller when we can relate to each other. I love that.

Amen to the foot rubs! And a double AMEN to the Marathon Lady...is it any wonder they're in marriage counselling, on top of everything else? My daughter feels so sorry for the kids in that home. Don't get me wrong; my kids sing the 'abuse' song loud and long to anyone that will listen...but sometimes you're just glad it isn't as bad as it COULD be, you know? Thanks for reading, Rumor!

Darson ~ I raise my coffee cup up to you this morn...I was able to sit (in between feeding dogs, answering doorbell (for plumbers) and watching a bit of news (to feel intellectual mind you  ~ and eating a toasted bagel with nutbutter) and I just simply enjoyed this read, as always...You narrate your accounts with such warmth and Love, I can't help but enjoy this with savor.  I love the family mix and the way your daughter learned a great lesson...such a lesson I have been through with my 4 children... Drason, that "marathon lady" needs to get her priorities straightened out

and the sooner the better or she'll lose her whole family....(keeping her kids home from school so she can train? Geez!)

Sounds like you guys had a great day, though, not perfect, but no day ever is...but there's nothing like a good foot rub....:)

Ah, Yes, Americana!

I loved this! I do believe this may have been the first time I have read you but it will not be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt like I was there because I could relate. This actually sounded like a Thanksgiving in our our family. This post of yours brought back great memories and hopes for even better ones in the future.

I loved it all! You keep getting them to fall for the rub my feet deal, ok? LOL!

I think He'd listen even if I were standing on my head!!! Thank you so much for reading. We are so lucky to have the kids we've been given, don't you think? I couldn't have picked better ones! Being a parent is the BEST!

Yes, that's what I think, too. He cares that much about me, and He cares about my knees and knows I'm always chilly. I love it that you said you felt as if you were there! I wish!

You brought back such memories of raising children for me. I too was a single parent for a time, and remember my boys and girls keeping me entertained. You tell a story wonderfully, and your God  heard you and answered. He does that even if we're lying in bed, or standing up.

Oh how wonderful and you write it so that I was there. You are so clever.
Darlin' re the kneeling to pray thing to me another miracle of the day was God showing you he hears your prayers from you are. No need to be cold sore and miserable. He likes you warm and dosey and comfortable when you chat.

I admire that in a person...someone who knows when it's time to just put everything else down and p-l-a-y. Husband holds his own at this; that's why we keep the feller around! I wish more people had been there to see the performance...! That more of us could share that. We, of course, might need a much bigger living room. Thank you so much for laughing with me. My family really IS crazy. They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

So True.
A wonderful story and expertly written. You made me feel as though I was there with you, perhaps in the office with hubby, trying to talk business, but the laughter from the living room made such talk impossible. Hubby, sensing my frustration, would yell, "Hey, you guys are losing it!" I would hear the laughter increase and then say to hubby, "You family sounds like they are having a fun time, go and join them, I'll call you next week." Excellent read.
