Been there, done that. After nine years on a job I loved, I quit for that reason. I would be the one to say what needed to be said, which would be the same thing everyone else said when no one was around. The only female foreman that company ever had, they would blame my words on just that...my being female. The guys were/are afraid of repercussion. They wouldn't take a stand for anything. After I left my job, I wrote the company owner and let her know what was going on. She wrote me back and said she would investigate. Whatever happens, I'm glad I said something.

Though my daughter admires me, I admire her because she speaks out. When she was in 5th grade, a so-called teacher (who declared that nothing in the classroom was to leak home to parents), began calling what she considered to be 'dumb' questions 'Nikki' questions. So, yes, I do think of and greatly admire those who, for the sake of us all and some greater reason, have plowed that one furrow, as you put it so well. Without these daring souls, we'd have few of the advances we quickly pluck from their tree now that it's 'safe.'

There's something to be said for putting it all out on the line like that.

It is worth speaking up especially when another person is getting railroaded for no good cause! Excellent post! sam
