Guy

I entered my Diet Hell primarily as a protest against the Chinese food flooding into our supermarkets! In the past, if I wanted to eat Chinese food, I'd go to Wong's or even into Chinatown next door in T.O. (that's Toronto, ON, to you), but now I have a hard time finding Canadian back bacon...And I'm seriously thinking of retiring the family silver and start using chopsticks...

And as for this business about learning Chinese...Back in my university days I shared an apartment with a guy who had our walls bedecked in sheets covered with Chinese characters; he was learning Chinese (Mandarin, actually) - to write, not to speak! He told me that learning to speak it was impossible! His theory was that even the Chinese don't learn their language, they're born with it...When we went to a Chinese restaurant, he used to 'converse' with the waiter on paper napkins...

And yes, I actually do know the tune to the lumberjack song, but have a hard time reproducing it for you here...

I just do not care for the goods manufactured in China! And that was very interesting on the bar code! sam

Thanks for the heads up on the bar codes.
I just basically go by the notion that if the price is too good to be true, it probably is Chinese.

On the other hand, the Honda car I'm getting ready to buy is made mostly in factories in Tennessee and Alabama. The Chevy I was thinking about is mostly made in Tijuana and Guadalajaro. So which one is the American car?

Aggravating times indeed. I hear banjos out there, and I don't mean Deliverance so much as I mean Nero...

We do try to buy local but it is tougher and tougher and yes the price

difference is huge but more scary.....one can't find anything locally made.

Food.......we just won't buy it..... President's Choice is Canadian so at least it is packaged or tinned here. but if it comes fromanywhere else we try real hard not to buy.

It is all the same in Australia....I can't believe that we uprooted all our orange groves because we could buy cheaper from over seas.  I agree when they have a monopoly,,,they will send the prices skyrocketing. They are a patient people.

I really am getting very disappointed about shopping, especially food.
