Tzippy - You have expressed your experience very well here and birthdays somehow stand out for kids at 10 years of age. I empathise with all that you have been through and understand your voice of reason. Thanks so much for your lovely comment.

I am trying to get a real 'feel' for what that little girl must have experienced, that important tenth birthday overshadowed by such overpowering events - but it's virtually impossible. It necessarily remains a 'willed' empathy, however sincere...

Poetry
and Birthdays cannot be taken away! Very inspirational! If only it were possible to get directly to the terrorist, terminate them from the face of the earth, but they hide amoung the non--terrorist normal people who simply want to live their lives in peace like you and me, so that people who don't deserve to die have to die in war. That is what I can't stand about war, I simply can't stand it, on both sides people who only want to live in peace, people who don't give a rats ass to why or what this war is all about, they have to die, I can't stand it!

j On the occasion of your birthday in the shelter during wartime with the radio on and good news of victory the mood there resembled ironically the one in the Christian camp song It only takes a spark to get a fire going. In this way love creates unity anywhere for all people. Evidently your birthday made them transfer to you the love that all of you and the soldiers needed. So in the midst of those sad horrible events you had that night the mood of a group around a campfire. And the Star of David was as still real as faith and hope. Our own FDR based his Fireside Chat on the radio during World War II on such news, hope, and support of the troops for victory. Happy birthday on your next one love. BC-A, Bill’s RJLst

Not really the best place to spend your birthday,
but at least you had all those nice people around to give you warm wishes.

The human spirit wins out over the worst crap the universe hands out.
You've proved this.
