Guy

6 months - that's how long it took me to get over it. But unlike that waterfeline, I never went back to it, even though, to this day, I still remember certain individual cigarettes, of the roughly 10,000 per year I smoked for a number of years, and the circumstances in which I smoked them...

And don't worry about wrinkles! The money you're not wasting on ciggies is money you can waste on invest in Botox...

Sorry Guy BUT....
I gave up smoking for 8 whole years once and so of course believed that it was well and truly out of my system and after the first 6mnths or so I never missed it or craved it... but all it took to ruin this for me was just one stupid dream I had one night where I was smoking -it was one of those dreams that you dont realise your dreaming till you wake up -and the sensation of the smoke going down my throat, and the smell and overall feeling felt so real and soooo enjoyable that I awoke with the worst craving ever, hopped in my car and headed straight for the shop to buy a packet.  That was 10 years ago and I now smoke more than I ever did.  This just shows that the addiction never really leaves you and remains in your system. It is etched somewhere deep inside your mind and/or body forever.  How else can I explain this happening to me. This is my experience.  All the best in your attempts to be good to yourself.

I think it is wonderful that you can stop smoking with cigarettes in the house! I suspect the gnawing for one will continue for awhile but you have come so far that it would be awful to put one in your mouth at this point! Smoke free...woohoo for YOU!!!! sam

Just reading this made me want a cigarette and it's 4 years or more
I know one would start me off....Sage, it really is no more ever...not one puff and I am full of sympathy for you with Marilyn smoking. I couldn't do it with someone around me smoking.

Keep up the good work Guy
I quit a few months ago too.  I have had the odd one or two since in times of extreme stress, but I find if I chain smoke a couple, I end up feeling ill for the rest of the day and can taste cigarettes for several days afterwards.  Then I try to hold on to that feeling (and also the feeling of disappointment for my lapse!) and think of it next time I'm tempted.  And remember, the odd lapse isn't the crime of the century - just try and make it the last lapse! I haven't had one for a few weeks now because I still remember the feeling of my last lapse vividly. And I agree that we are all very wise in retrospect - unfortunately that seems to be the only time I am wise!!
