Watching softly
Thank you for reminding me how I love to watch my loved ones sleep, from this prospective you see only good things. Utah Jay

I feel a sense of tranquility when I see others asleep. I imagine the feeling is stronger when it is one that someone loves so dearly.

Lovely thoughts of a mother
I have had similar ones watching my little ones sleep.

PS: You left a point of indecision in the poem with your placement of the preposition "for". In this case, the formal and normally stilted use might be the better choice (pace Churchill) because of the rhythm:
you know not / for what / to look
. . _ / . _ / . _

Simone, it is nice to be able to leave and feel the peace in the minds of the innocent. Things never feel quite so bad at the time fortunately and one must always remember how it would have been.
