Re:Kristles like you I go back & forth, on how I feel about things & people
As you expressed in your July 4th "opinion" blog, you sometimes get the "warm and fuzzys" wishing that people everywhere could celebrate our similarities and general sameness, instead of playing up our differences. Sure, there are fundamental differences in all of our political opinions, religions, cultures, and self-interests. BOY AND HOW, there are differences! Still as I have heard said, "All cats are gray, in the dark." Regardless of all of our many differences, we all bleed red, we all cry tears, and laugh alternately, we love our families, our animals, where we grew up, and usually our own country. These are universally HUMAN traits, not affected by one's country of origin, or religion, age or gender. I agree that immigration needs much work, if for no other reason, than to safeguard our country borderlines, from those who would wipe us from existence. Borderlines are artificial demarcations, visible only on maps, and at border crossings. Practical matters make the kind of world that dreamy, wide-eyed idealists wish were possible, impossible. Still, as monumental as the problems among differing peoples are, we share much more in common, than there are differences among all of us humans. There is too much focus put upon the dissimilarities, and too many who would fan flames of hatred, for reasons known only to themselves.

I totally agree with the email....you didn't say what part of the email you disagree with.  The email has nothing to do with political party affiliation.  It states clearly that it is not talking about legal immigration.  I live in Texas and I totally understand this email....come in legally, pay your taxes, follow the rules, learn to speak the language so we don't have the expense of printing everything in two languages....we have to have a common language in these united states to operate efficiently....we have to have laws that apply to all to have a civilized society.  Do we have a perfect system where things actually work that way all the time?  Of course not, but if we don't have that as a stated goal we've lost before we begin.  And, I would add to the email, fine and punish employers who hire illegals. I'm sorry, but the USA is not a social services agency for Mexico.....but, we are as welcoming to those who want to come legally as we ever were.

Well - he does have a point. Immigration - giving other people a chance to live in a free country - is great, but there is a reason for the quote "When in Rome, do as the Romans..."
