Ash Pradhan
I would say that's profound humility with hard won maturity my friend.

Thank you all for your wise comments / advice, further....
I showed this poem to my daughter, who promptly forwarded it to her husband, who, upon reading, came running up to me, gave me a hug & said that the problem was bugging him too! Upon further reflection, I'm convinced that it was unwise of me to joke about something that he is so sensitive about, granted I wasn't aware of his heightened sensitivity to the subject..well, but now I know, and only a fool makes the same mistake twice..and that I definitely am not!! - Ash

I think for many that it is the latter as well. You have the right attitude in wanting to change and have an apology speak of maturity.

Ash, I can think of a few times I've apologized and wondered why later...
Maybe it wasn't necessary, but if it diffused a disagreement or just broke an awkward silence, it was worth it...

Apologizing
Apologizing is always a good thing ,whether accepted or not. The only thing,it does not make the situation perfect.

Sometimes it's just a thoughtless remark...and some people are hyper sensitive, which we may not realize. Saying sorry takes courage and a big heart!

Amen!! Filled with the former, indeed! I know this feeling, but I guess one has to be humble first to get a thing resolved! But it never makes sense to me! sam

An off-the-cuff remark by me...
to my nice son-in-law, though meant as light humor by me, did not sit well with him. It takes heightened maturity & sensitivity to different peoples' soft corners, especially of those close to us, to maintain harmonious relationships! - Ash
